Overview of HDX
The European Commission (EC), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Gates Foundation (GF) have recently developed the Human Development Accelerator (HDX) – an innovative financing partnership to address critical global health challenges. HDX has been set up under the European Commission’s European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus (EFSD+) program with €750m of guarantees to underwrite EIB investments alongside additional TA funding from the European Commission and catalytic grant funding from the Gates Foundation. HDX acts as an origination platform - developing and managing a pipeline of high-risk investments into global health and human development in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa with an initial focus on investments in manufacturing, R&D and supply chains for vaccines and medicinal products / devices.
The Role
HDX is looking for individuals with deep healthcare sector expertise and networks to support the team with building a pipeline of investable opportunities in the healthcare manufacturing, R&D and supply chain sectors within LMICs, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa. The individuals should come with proven experience in building investment pipelines / managing investment portfolio for investors (fund managers, investment companies, healthcare companies) and should have a combination of strong industry sector experience, as well as a solid investment background, primarily with experience in debt or venture capital. The individual will need to be entrepreneurial, proactive and decisive, able to quickly understand the investment mandate / requirements and confident to quickly identify / screen relevant opportunities and present investable opportunities to the team. Given the small team size, the individual should also be comfortable with coaching / supporting other team members in building knowledge / understanding of the healthcare sector. Above all, the individual needs to be a people person – able to build trusted relationships, manage relationships diplomatically and confidently represent HDX in various events.

Responsibilities:
- Proactively identify prospective investment opportunities in the global health manufacturing, R&D and supply chain sector (primary focus in Sub Saharan Africa, but also extending to wider LMICs)
- Working with prospective investees, co-investors and partners to structure / construct deals, bringing partners together to create investable opportunities for HDX
- Proactively initiating, managing and driving business development / relationship management activities with a range of partners / stakeholders
- Representing HDX through participation in sector conferences, panel discussions and client meetings / workshops
- Knowledge sharing / support for building up sector expertise within the HDX team
